Martin Hümmecke discovered his passion for artistic work when he was
about 14 years old. Comic strips, pop art, surrealism and fantasy art fascinated and
and prompted him to work intensively with graphics and painting.
After the first few years of self-taught work, he expanded his abilities
in the field of graphics and illustration by studying at the Design University of Münster. Since graduating, he has continued his artistic work alongside his full-time occupation as a designer.
The subject of his work is his subjective mental and emotional reality, which as the sum of his own memories and experiences merge to form the inner world. An essential element of his work is the concentration on the line, which in its powerful simplicity gives him access to his surprising pictorial constellations. In his search for his own archaic symbols, he finds himself in spaces of his unconscious personality.
His working method shows many parallels to surrealism, symbolism and urban art.
In his technique, he moves between graphics and painting, in which the possibilities of digital image processing have had an increasing influence in recent years.
